Too Close To The Edge

Both J. Vernon McGee and Adrian Rogers used the illustration of children falling out of bed at night. The little girl in McGee*s illustration told her mother that she fell out of bed because she stayed too close to the place where she got in. When we trust Christ, if we are wise we will want to be in the center of His plan for our lives. While He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) the greatest problems for believers are when they don*t go deeply enough into God*s will and stay there. If we just try to dabble around the edges of Christianity we risk getting God*s chastening, which can be pretty severe. We also deprive ourselves of the rewards God gives both here and now and in eternity.

Adrian Rogers used the same illustration as McGee and Pastor Dan Lupton wisely said the safest place for a believer is in the center of the circle of God*s will for one*s life, whether that place is a battlefield or a bed of rest. The Bible uses the words ordained and appointed concerning His will for us, two rather specific and powerful words.

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Matthew 26:19: And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

Luke 10:1: After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

Acts 17:26: And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

Acts 22:10: And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

Proverbs 4:25: Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

We ought to jump into Christianity with both of our feet.
